I don’t like getting up early, but my body knows when it’s time for pastries. At 5:50am I woke up ready for Butter Bakery.
Last weekend we went to Clayton to grab coffee and spotted a little butter fridge with a sold out sign on it. Butter Bakery is a self-serve bake stand near Clayton Town Square. It’s restocked a few times a week and draws plenty of interest.
I was baffled, nearing on offended, that we hadn’t seen it before and even more distressed that no one told me about it. It’s like when you “discover” a new band and it turns out all your friends already knew about them and now they all think you’re a giant, out-of-touch nerd.
We ran into the owner, Sara Grace, and her dad (who was sporting a lovely Butter Bakery shirt that us commoners will hopefully be able to purchase soon). The bakery has only been running for a few weeks, but this studio artist and baker has really churned out a winning model.
Here are some good things to know before you go:
- It’s very cute.
- Stock is limited and they sell out quickly. They were out of chocolate chip cookies within 15 minutes and fully sold out after 1 hour.
- They’ve added lattes to the rotation in case you forget the cold brew you made on your kitchen counter.
There’s a park and sculpture walk nearby where you can take a casual stroll and put off starting the workday, making the morning the butter half of your day.
